The Houston Chapter of the Efik National Association Inc., USA is hosting the 2011 Efik National Convention at the Arab American Cultural & Community Center, 10555 Stancliff Rd, Houston, Texas, 77099, from Thursday, July 28 – Saturday, July 30, 2011. Please make your hotel reservation now as rooms are going fast.

We have reserved 30 Rooms at the nearby Holiday Inn, 11160 South-West Freeway, Houston, TX 77031, for three nights at $69.00/night, single or double beds. Make your reservation now and take advantage of the discount. The hotel will provide on request, free microwaves and refrigerators, subject to availability, and on a first-come-first-served basis.

Our goal is to raise $200,000 to finance our projects, including the proposed medical mission to Calabar, Nigeria, in October 2011. Our theme for this year’s convention is "Access to Wellness Resources: A Great First Step towards Community Empowerment". This is a fundraising event and we expect donations and sponsorships from individuals, friends, corporate America, and private organizations, Tickets are currently on sale as follows:
Adults - $50; Youths under 18 years - $25; Children 5 years and under – Free

This is history in the making, and an opportunity for us as individuals to advertise our businesses in the Program Booklet. The program booklet is a souvenir item where we can send congratulatory messages to the ENA, and his Royal Highness, the Obong of Calabar and Grand Patriarch of the Efik Eburutu People, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, who has graciously accepted to be the Special Guest of honor at the Efik National Convention. Equally as gracious, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, Eka Iban Efik Eburutu, will be the Chief Launcher for the Gala/Fundraising Night. We expect prominent Efik indigenes from Nigeria and the Diaspora. You will have an opportunity to watch our kids display their talents and enjoy the rich cultural attributes of the Efiks. Planned activities for the week of the Obong’s visit include the following:

• Tour of Houston Transtar Facility.

• Tour of the Houston Medical Center – prelude to the medical mission & a source of support.

• Reception at Houston City Hall for the Obong, by city leaders early in the week; another opportunity to talk about the medical mission and solicit support. We plan to invite city leaders, state and federal legislatures.

• Award / Proclamation in the city council chambers - ENA President (or Obong) is presented with the proclamation declaring Saturday, July 30, 2011 Efik National Association Day in Houston. ENA President (or Obong) accepts & addresses the full Council. Please note, this is a live event on the cable channel and local media is usually present.

• Other Presentations / Proclamations - State of Texas and Federal Government. Presented to Obong and his entourage for their first visit to Texas and United States. (Obong or ENA President accepts and speech).
