Mr. Chris B. Effiong, Jr – President
My name is Chris Bassey Effiong Jr. I am the President of the Efikusa Youth Wing (YW) for the 2022 – 2024 Exco. I am a 15-year-old sophomore that attends Jesuit High School, California. As a confirmed Catholic, and in keeping with the Jesuit motto of “A Man for Others”, I believe in service for the community. My volunteer activities include: reading to children, playing games with people with special needs, organizing games at the Youth Center of Holy Trinity Catholic Church El Dorado Hills and sorting / organizing of foods in the “Women’s Center”. My favorite subjects include Math, Chemistry and English and I intend to attend a 4-year University on a full scholarship. I have attended many Efikusa National Conventions since I was a young child, and I feel that under my leadership, I can take the YW event to the next level by planning and organizing new, fun, and creative activities that will engage members of our Youth Wing. I am a member of my school’s Track and Field team as well as our Varsity Football team, and the winner of the “2022 Jr. Varsity Offensive Player of the Year”. Together with my Exco members, we will promote the Efik culture and the YW events through advertisement on the Efikusa Facebook and Instagram pages. I am excited to work with my Exco team and the Efikusa National Exco. Thank you!

Ms. Thyra Beckley – Vice-President
Thyra Beckley is a 19 year old sophomore at San Francisco State University with a major in Political Science and a minor in International Relations. She completed her freshman year having made the Dean’s List in all semesters. Thyra was a staff writer for her high school news publication (Wildcat Tribune), she served as a staff member and photographer for the National Press Photographers Association at her university, as well as collaborating with other departments on projects that involve photographed portraits.

Thyra has served her community in various capacities namely as a former San Ramon Police Explorer, supporting basic law enforcement and security operations at community events. To enhance her work, she obtained certification from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Level III Police Explorer Academy in the summer of 2019. She works as a Sexual Violence Health Assistant Student Leader at her University, where she advocates for students that are victims of sexual violence. Additionally, Thyra is serving as a U.S. Leader for the World Economic Forum (WEF), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Youth Council and she has participated in global forums discussing Artificial Intelligence issues and their impact on society.

Ms. Elizabeth Bassey – Secretary
Hello! My name is Elizabeth Bassey and I am the Secretary of the Efikusa Youth Wing for the 2022-2024. I am a senior at Riverside STEM Academy and plan to attend a 4-year university to major in Applied Mathematics / Statistics. My family are active members of Nka Ima Obio Efik, California. I tutor students in Math and Science and during my leisure time, I play soccer and the flute. Also, I am the president of my school’s Heritage Club and Secretary of our “Generation Up” chapter. Both clubs focus on the support of students in academic endeavors. With my experience, I believe that I can aid in the development of our youth and I am excited to work alongside my team of executive members as we build and amplify our Efik pride.

Ms. Columba E. Effiong – Treasurer
My name is Columba Eneanwan Effiong, daughter of Chris and Rosemary Effiong. I am proud to serve as our Efikusa Youth Wing (YW) Treasurer. I am a freshman at The Ohio State University (The OSU Buckeyes), majoring in Business Administration, and I am a part of our school’s Track and Field program. I have an extensive record of humanitarian service namely: Sac Thanksgiving Day 5K-Run-to-Feed-the-Hungry, volunteering in stocking produce at the Catholic Charities Food Bank and Thrift Shop and preparing meals/distribution of meals to the homeless. In my spare time, I enjoy working out, hanging out with friends, watching movies/tv shows, and traveling. I have been a part of the YW for several years. I have expectations of this organization and my goal as the treasurer, is to ensure that our YW money is properly accounted for. By so doing, my fellow youths will enjoy the paid activities that they choose. Thank you for your confidence in me.
